, ''s. [pl.]'' The inhabitants of Magadha, as மகதர். 2. A particular tribe said to spring from a ''Kshatrya'', or kingly, mother, and a ''Vaisya'', or servile, father. Their profession is that of minstrels, who sing the praises and chivalrous exploits of sovereigns, and attend on the march of an army. They are still numerous in the west of India under the name of ''Bhauts.''
