, 7. The seven saktis, or mothers. They are: பிராமி, Brahmi, con sort of Brahma; 2. மயேச்சுவரி, ''Mahas vari'', consort of Siva; 3. கௌமாரி, ''Kau mari'', consort of ''Kumara''; 4. நாரா யணி,''Narayani'', consort of ''Narayan'', or Vishnu; 5. வராகி,''Varahi'', consort of Vishnu, as வராகன்; 6. இந்திராணி, ''Indrani'', the consort of ''Indra''; 7. காளி, ''Kali'', the consort of ''Virabhadra''. Some authorities make them ''eight'' by including ''Aparajita'' wife of Kuvera. W. p. 655. MATRU. Their respective conveyances in order are: 1. அன்னம், a swan; 2. இடபம், a bull; 3. மயில், a peacock; 4. கருடன், ''Garuda,'' or a kite; 5. சீயம், a lion; 6. யானை, an ele phant; 7. பேய், a devil.--Their weapons, மறை or வேதம், the law; 2. பினாகம், a bow; 3. வேல், a lance, or spear; 4. ஆழி, the ''chakra'', a circular missile; 5. கலப்பை, a plough; 6. வச்சிரம், a thunderbolt; 7. சூலம், a trident.
