[cāṉavi ] --சான்னவி, ''s.'' The Ganges, as daughter of சன்னு, Jahnu, a Rishi whose devotion was disturbed by the river in its course, and who therefore swallowed its waters. At the intercession of Bhagiratha, he again voided them in a stream; and is therefore considered the progenitor of the river, கங்கைநதி. W. p. 349. JAHNAVEE. Compare பகீரதி.
