IV. v. t. put, deposit, வை; 2. give, ஈ; 3. put on as ornaments, தரி; 4. designate, விதி; 5. throw, எறி; 6. distribute, பரிமாறு; 7. pour. shower சொரி; 8. lay, as an egg, முட்டையிடு; 9. as an expletive it is joined to the adv. part. of other words as செய்திட்டான், he has done it entirely. In the 3 conjugations it is joined to the roots as, பேசிட்டேன், I spoke, compound verbs. as பின்னிடு, பங்கிடு, கூப்பிடு, சத்தமிடு, சாப்பிடு, etc. see in their places. இடுகடை, a door or gate where gifts are bestowed. இடுகாடு, a place where dead bodies are burnt or buried. இடுகுறி, இடுகுறிப்பெயர் an arbitrary name, primitive term (x காரணப் பெயர்.) இடுகை, v. n. gift. இடுதண்டம், penalty, fine. இடுமருந்து, a philter. இட்டறுதி, a fixed time or term, critical time. இட்டு, used as adv. through, on account of. அவனையிட்டு இந்தப் பழி வந்தது, this disgrace happened through him. இட்டுக்கட்டிக்கொள்ள, to cast aspersion upon; to concoct, fabricate. இட்டுக்கொள்ள, to take along; to put இடுவி, is the causative of இடு. ஈடு, v. n. taxes to be paid to the king.

, [iṭu] கிறேன், இட்டேன், வேன், இட, ''v. a.'' To set, put on as ornaments, தரிக்க. 2. To put in, deposit, keep, வைக்க. 3. To give, bestow, grant, devote, appropriate, ஈய. 4. To throw, case, poke out, poke or thrust into, எறிய. 5. To designate, ap propriate, assign, allot, destine, dictate, விதிக்க. 6. To pour, shower, சொரிய.--As an expletive, it is joined to the gerunds of other verbs in which, it sometimes gives additional force or emphasis to the action expressed, or serves as a kind of finish, வினையெச்சத்தோடுசேர்ந்தோர்பகுதிநீர்மைத்தா ய்வருவது.--The gerund இட்டு is sometimes used to express cause, instrumentality, &c.--as, அவனையிட்டிந்தப்பழிவந்தது, this dis grace happened through him. மரத்தினிற்பறவைக்கிடுகலேபோலப்பாதகமனைத்துந் தொலைத்திடும். It will drive away every evil, as a stone thrown at birds in a tree puts them to flight.
