, ''s.'' Barbarous nations, foreigners. The tribes enumerated under this head by ''Menu,'' appear to be principally the inhabitants of the countries bordering on India, north and south; especially those adjacent to Bengal and Behar, and on the Southern part of the Coromandel coast, which are severally called ''Paundrakas, O'dras (Uriyas),'' and Draviras; also the Cam bojas; Yavanas (Greeks or Bactrians); Sakas; Paravas; Pahlavas (ancient Persians); Chinese; Kiratas, generally mountaineers; Deradas (Darad&ae;) and K'hasas (Scuthi). W. p. 677.--''Note.'' The term is now applied, more espe cially, to Europeans, and those from any remote country.
