a. (வடி.) கோளவுரு வகையில் துருவ அச்சு நீட்டிப்பு உடைய, அகலத்தில் மிகை வளர்ச்சியுடைய, மிகுபரவலாயுள்ள, (இலக்.) பயனிலைப்பொருளை முடிப்பதற்குப் பயன்படுகிற, பயனிலைமானம் விரிக்கிற.

See Pro-, and Tolerate. ] Defn: Stretched out; extended; especially, elongated in the direction of a line joining the poles; as, a prolate spheroid; -- opposed to oblate. Prolate cycloid.
