Cni*da"ri*a, n., pl. Etym: [NL. See Cnida.] (Zoöl.) Defn: A comprehensive group equivalent to the true Coelenterata, i.e., exclusive of the sponges. They are so named from presence of stinging cells (cnidae) in the tissues. See Coelenterata.
