மணிக்கல், இரத்தினம், பட்டையிட்ட மணிக்கல், உருவம் செதுக்கப்பெற்றுள்ள மணிக்கல், பெருமதிப்புப் பொருள், அரும்பொருள், அரும்பொருளின் மிகச் சிறந்த கூறு, (வினை) மணி இழை, இரத்தினக் கற்களைக் கொண்டு ஒப்பனைச் செய், குயிற்று.

A precious stone of any kind, as the ruby, emerald, topaz, sapphire, beryl, spinel, etc., especially when cut and polished for ornament; a jewel. Milton. 3. Anything of small size, or expressed within brief limits, which is regarded as a gem on account of its beauty or value, as a small picture, a verse of poetry, a witty or wise saying.
