n. (மண்.) புதைவடிவம், மரபற்றுப்போனவற்றின் பழஞ்சின்னம், பழமைப்பட்டவர், காலத்துக்கு ஒவ்வாப் பழம் பாணியினர், வழக்கில்லாப் பழம்பொருள், (பெ.) புதைபடிவ நிலையிலுள்ள, பழமைப்பட்ட, காலத்துக்கு ஒவ்வாப் பழம் பாணியிலுள்ள, மேற்கொண்டு வளர்ச்சியுடையுந் திறனற்ற.
Fos"sil, a. Etym: [L. fossilis, fr. fodere to dig: cf. F. fossile. See Fosse.] 1. Dug out of the eart; as, fossil coal; fossil salt. 2. (Paleon.) Defn: Like or pertaining to fossils; contained in rocks. whether petrified or not; as, fossil plants, shells. [Obs.] Note: Formerly all minerals were called fossils, but the word is now restricted to express the remains of animals and plants found buried in the earth. Ure. 2. (Paleon.)
