Stillingfleet. 2. (Naut.) Defn: To strike or lower in haste; to slacken suddenly; as, douse the topsail. Douse, v. i. Defn: To fall suddenly into water. Hudibras. Douse, v. t. Etym: [AS. dwæscan.
