n. ஈரமாக்குபவர், ஈரமாக்குவது, அஞ்சல்தலை தாள்போன்றவற்றை நனைப்பதற்குரிய சாதனம், ஊதைக் காற்றைத் தடுக்கும் கதவு, நேர் காற்றைத் தளர்த்தும் கதவின் அழிப்பலகை, ஆர்வம் கெடுப்பவர், எழுச்சி கெடுக்கும் பொருள், ஊக்கம் கெடுக்கும் ஆற்றல், தளர்வூட்டும் செய்தி, அதிர்வு-சுழற்சி ஆகியற்றின் வீச்சினைக் குறைக்கும் அமைவு, (இசை) இசைக்கருவிகளில் ஒலியை அடக்கும் இரக்கி அல்லது திண்டு போன்ற பொருள், மின்கம்பி உருகிவிடாமற் காக்கும் உலோகத் தகட்டுக் காப்புறை.

(b) A contrivance, as in a pianoforte, to deaden vibrations; or, as in other pieces of mechanism, to check some action at a particular time.
