croup

-1 n. கொடிய இருமலோடு கூடிய குழந்தைகளின் காற்றுக்குழல் அழற்சி நோய் வகை, தொண்டையில் உண்டாகும் கரகரத்த ஒலி, (வி.) கரகரத்த ஒலியோடு பேசு, தவளை போலக் கத்து.-2 n. குதிரையின் பிட்டம், சேணத்திற்குப் பின்னுள்ள பாகம்.


Croup (krp), n. Etym: [F. croupe hind quarters, croup, rump, of German or Icel. origin; cf. Icel. kryppa hump; akin to Icel. kroppr. Cf. Crop.] Defn: The hinder part or buttocks of certain quadrupeds, especially of a horse; hence, the place behind the saddle. So light to the croup the fair lady he swung, So light to the saddle before her he sprung. Sir W. Scott. Croup (krp), n. Defn: An inflammatory affection of the larynx or trachea, accompanied by a hoarse, ringing cough and stridulous, difficult breathing; esp., such an affection when associated with the development of a false membrane in the air passages (also called membranous croup).
